Tired of the ever-present stream of music from modern platforms, we embarked on a journey to revive the Classic iPod. We saw the potential in reimagining the iconic iPod, breathing new life into its design, battery life, storage capacity and added inside some new features like the AirTag.
The iPod, a device that once revolutionized how we experienced music, has garnered nostalgia as time has passed. The original iPod, with its signature click wheel and simple interface, is a testament to an era when we held unprecedented control over our listening habits. Most of us now consume music through streaming services, missing the genuine experience of curating our own playlists.
Our Player Mods project involves carefully disassembling a 5th, 6th, 7th generation iPod and introducing significant upgrades, primarily focusing on battery life and storage. We opted for a sleeker and more expansive storage solution by utilizing a thin iFlash that accommodated SDXC card, providing ample space without compromising power consumption. But the traditional battery and casing were retained.
But that's not all. We were inspired not only by the nostalgia of the iPod Classic... We were also inspired by the new functions of gadgets that we can’t live without. Thus, we introduced the AirTag, Bluetooth and USB-C port into the iPod. Great, isn't it? It's a combination of retro and new technology.
